The Illuminator
From the factory the batteries are already installed in the illuminator piece of the polar finder scope. It has a plastic tab that prevents the thumb screw from contacting the batteries and running them down. his must be removed before it will work. This photo should help with the teardown. Remember to turn off the illuminator once you have aligned your mount with Polaris. I've run down serveral sets of batteries mistakenly. At $2 a piece, it gets expensive to replace them.
