MoonLite Dual Rate Crayford Focuser
The model CR2 dual rate focuser was my choice of replacement for the stock focuser. The slow-motion adjustment is neccessary in my opinion to reach that critical focus neccessary for the fast optics. Installation was a bit tricky because it doesn't bolt to the original holes for the stock focuser. This forces you to drill new ones. Measure carefully! Another problem I had was that the original focuser had been tightened down so much that the bolts pulled the tube out of shape. That meant the black spacers shown in the photo didn't quite fit. I hammered the tube back into shape. Finally, the bolts supplied should really be coated black or something. They originally caused reflections in my images. I cured this by painting the nuts and bolts flat black.
Despite some hurdles during installation and a couple of problems afterwards, I've been pleased with the focuser. It's much easier to reach focus these days. There is no image shift when reversing directions. Also, another benefit is that the focus tube doesn't trespass into the light path. It's a bit expensive for such a low end telescope but I think a good focuser is worth the expense.
